Joey Hand to Drive Starworks #7 with Bill Lester at VIRApril 22, 2010Joey Hand, from Sacramento, California will co-drive the #7 Flex-Box Starworks Motorsport Dinan-BMW Riley Daytona Prototype with Bill Lester in the Bosch Engineering 250, round 4 of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16. Joey Hand is one of the most experienced Rolex Series drivers in the field and one of the most talented and is eager to take the #7 Flex-Box Starworks Motorsport Dinan-BMW Riley to the winner’s circle.
Kasper Andersen, who is the regular driver for that car, has to be replaced at the last minute since he was not able to catch a flight on time from Denmark to participate in the VIR event. Following the Barber race Kasper returned to his native country of Denmark where he resides and despite Peter Baron’s efforts to find a travel options to cross the Atlantic since he heard about the situation with the cloud that followed the eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano in Iceland, Kasper was not able to leave Denmark. Multiple Rolex Series GT class winner Joey Hand’s last experience in a Daytona Prototype was in 2008 when he co-drove all season with Bill Auberlen. In addition to being a “BMW” driver in the 2010 ALMS where Joey drives a BMW M3 for Rahal Letterman Racing, Joey Hand also races a BMW M6, from time to time, in the Rolex Series with teammate Bill Auberlen in the GT category and also race a BMW M3 in the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Grand Sport class with Turner Motorsport. Practice and qualifying for the fourth round of the season, the Bosch Engineering 250, are set for Friday, April 23. The two-hour, 45-minute race takes the green flag at noon ET Saturday, with flag-to-flag coverage on SPEED beginning at 2 p.m. |
